The 2nd edition of Bouldering in Ireland has been out of print for a few months making now the ideal time to update the guide and release a third edition.
The 2nd edition was published in late 2013 and contained fairly minor updates. The design stayed the same but mistakes were corrected, grades tweaked and new problems and a few new minor areas added (Raven’s Glen, Glenmalure, Lugnaquillia, Wicklow Coast, Gorumna Island, Inishbofin and Achilll Island). That there wasn’t any major new areas probably isn’t that surprising considering that it came less that 2.5 years after the first edition.
Over the next 6 months or so I’m going to work on the 3rd edition. This will involve a design overhaul, a new cover as well as adding in all the new problems and areas. I’m going to tackling it by province starting with the South (Munster).
The main changes required are to update the Gap of Dunloe with some new problems as well as some better topos and Doolin needs to be completely re-done as the storms have rearranged everything. There are also a few pretty minor new areas to add.
I would really appreciate feedback and advice but the most important thing to get as much information about new problems and areas as there won’t be another edition for a long time. Now’s your chance to tell the world about your new stuff. Also if you have any decent photos fire them on.
Please get in touch (flanagandavid at hotmail.com, https://www.facebook.com/david.flanagan.79462) if you have anything for me, don’t assume I know about it already.
Also feel free to add new problems to the database.
