Cocoon Sauna, Portnablagh Pier, Donegal
It’s probably not surprise that with the recent covid-driven surge in popularity of sea swimming and the temperature of our seas that saunas have started to pop up near the popular swimming spots.
The second edition of Exploring Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, which was released in early 2020, only mentions one mobile sauna, while the following list contains over 50 mobile saunas that operate along the Wild Atlantic Way as of July 2024.
Most are constructed out of wood, either handbuilt or off-the-shelf, and heated by a wood-fed stoves. Most on this list are mobile and some serve multiple locations. Opening hours vary, most operate daily in the summer and on a more limited schedule during the rest of the year. Consult the relevant link for details.
Note that I haven’t included spas with saunas and have focused on those that are situated right beside the sea so that you can take a dip in the Atlantic to cool off.
