Saunas along the Wild Atlantic Way
Earlier this week I wrote a blog post with details of all the mobile-type saunas along the Wild Atlantic Way. Their proliferation is something of a recent development. The second edition of Exploring Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, which was released in early 2020, only mentions one mobile sauna, while this list includes over 50 mobile saunas that operate along the Wild Atlantic Way as of July 2024.
BONUS GRAVEL ROUTE – Trooperstown Hill, Wicklow
In light of the recent difficulties with Coillte I have decided to publish a few of the gravel routes that it wasn’t possible to include in the second edition of Cycling in Ireland. The first route is a circuit of Trooperstown Hill, near Laragh in Wicklow. It’s a really great hard/gravel/MTB route with a wide variety of tracks and paths.
Some Interesting Property on the Market
A bit of a departure for this newsletter, but three very interesting properties have recently appeared on to the market that I think might appeal to any dreamer/adventurer types.
The Coastguard Station at Torr Head, Antrim. This former Lloyds signal station has an amazing setting, perched on top of a hill a short distance from Fair Head with spectacular views along the coast and across the sea to Scotland. It would make an amazing and very popular Airbnb! They are looking for over £150,00.
Big Yellow Island, Athlone is a two acre wooded island close to the western shore of Lough Ree in Roscommon. It’s not often that islands on Ireland’s lakes come up for sale, certainly not for a reasonable €95,000. The island would make an perfect off-the-grid retreat.
Carrigeenshinnagh , Wicklow. Anyone who has done a bit of hiking in Wicklow will probably be familiar with this cottage. It sits on the track that leads to the upper section of Lough Dan near Roundwood. The two bedroom cottage has amazing views over the lake and come with 10 acres of the land. The hefty €775,000 asking price reflects the uniqueness of the location.
Another Island Visit
This year has been a good one for getting to the island. The two night trip in early July was my 5th of the year with hopefully a few more to come. You can read about the trip and see the photos here.
Special Offers
In last month’s newsletter I mentioned that I wasn’t continuing the buy one get one free offers (BOGOF) and instead I was offering a €10 discount for orders of more than one product.
Well, I give this a try for a few weeks and it wasn’t a great success so I have moved back to BOGOFs, the current offer is for a free copy of the Adventure Map of Ireland with each order of Exploring Ireland. The €10 discount on orders of more than one product is still in place also. With these offers and free shipping to the island of Ireland I think that there is great value to be had.
